A New Era for Communications: Launching Digitel Network in Marouw for the First Time

Elders, youth and women and men of Marouw village in the remote countryside of South Sudan were elated as they witnessed the launch of the first mobile network in their area. This marked a new era for communications in the village, which had previously been cut off from the rest of South Sudan and to the world generally.

The project was the result of a joint effort between the NCA, Digitel. The Digitel was tasked to bring reliable and affordable communication services to the village, which had previously relied on traditional way to communicate, walking for more than 100 mails just to deliver a message. 

The launch event was attended Government officials, NCA official, representatives of Digitel, and members of the community. The first call was made by the village chief, Women representative whom expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in making the project a reality.

The network is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of the villagers, especially in terms of access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. With the Digitel network in place, residents can now easily communicate with doctors, teachers, and potential employers who are located in other parts of the country.

The launch of the mobile network is just the first step in the development of the village's communication infrastructure. Plans are already underway to expand the network coverage and improve the quality of the services offered.

The project is an example of how technology can be harnessed to improve the lives of people in rural and remote areas. It is hoped same project can be simulated in other villages.
